Today We Get to Choose

"No One Else Knows" by Building 429

Ever start thinking deep about what is in the distance?
Are you caught in the past, overwhelmed today,
fearful of the future, wondering will things change?

Some days we wake up and thoughts of failures, weakness and mistakes of the past
pop into our heads.  On those days it is kind of like we go to the closet and pick out
clothes to wear, picking out smelly rags that have been sealed in an old box that were
meant to be thrown out with the trash.  We choose to wear them instead of new clothes
that reflect who we really are.  Who knows why? I don't, that is for sure. For some strange reason we are drawn to try them on and don’t take them off right away because down
in our hearts we feel unclean, ashamed, dirty and unworthy.  It is painful, we don't like it
but is is familiar.  We have can tell ourselves NO, STOP!
I am not going down this path in my head and heart....

On days like this we need to can remind ourselves that
we have a choice to choose our attitude for the day.
True, some days it is easier said than done... But it really does help
if we try to be present in the moment now. We can't change the past
but we can choose our response to today.  That is what we have.. Today, Right Now!
Even if the moment now hurts really bad, and life stinks, try and remember that
Today is Temporary. Will it matter 10 years from now?

Who knows what will happen tomorrow? We should plan and have goals but
the important thing is not to be so burdened by what might or might not happen
When we are struggling, we need take a deep breath and not be so hard on ourselves.
Who hasn't made mistakes?
All choices we make, good or bad have consequences and we have to know that.
How can we think with hope?
What is the truth? God gives us the strength for today,
one day at a time so deal with the moment now.

The first step is to ask forgiveness from God. Then we take the next step and
forgive ourselves. That is hard too. There is no magic wand to make everything go away
but with the forgiveness we receive from Him, we also receive peace, grace, and wisdom.
All of our sins & mistakes, known and unknown by others, only by God at the time,
will be forgiven!

If God the all knowing, merciful, mighty creator forgives us when we ask Him to;
who are we not to receive it? How awesome is that?
He forgets, casts our sins as far as the east is from the west! (Psalm 103:12)
We are forgiven, new creations, set free of the bonds that we trap ourselves in!
If we haven't really experienced unconditional love it is hard sometimes to believe
that we can be loved, accepted and forgiven.
  It is TRUE ; )

What do we need to do on those bad days?
Throw out those out clothes (the feelings of shame, guilt and unworthiness)!
They are trash to be forgotten, burned.  Some days that is easier said than done
but the truth is: t
hey mean nothing anymore!  They do not define who we are today!

We are not as great and strong as God. It is hard sometimes as mere mortals
to forget things… Often we tuck a few things we don't really want inside ourselves because they are comfortable, familiar to us as strange as that may sound to some people.
Please let it/them go~give it God. Try writing down those thoughts, your mistakes, hurts, angers or failures on paper and then burn or throw the paper away.
Imagine putting that trouble in a bubble on your hand and blow it away.
Letting go of things (thoughts and feelings) that hurt us, make us fearful,
or angry and giving them to God, takes most of the burden off of us
so that we can see things more clearly.

Things seem to be going better and then all of a sudden we fall, or fail...
Perhaps we open a door and find another closet that needs to be cleaned out.
Now what?
If we conceal our sins we do not prosper, but we find mercy in forgiveness
when we ask for forgiveness. God says,
‘I will forgive their wickedness & will remember their sins no more’.
(Hebrews 8:12)  We may not be able to forget everything,
but we can learn to let go of the past by the grace of God.
All the thoughts of guilt and shame which are false now are burdens we don’t need to carry. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!  (Romans: 8:1)

We will never be perfect but we are loved as we are!
We can and should cast off the filthy, smelly cloak of the past;
we need not wear it any longer!
Worrying about yesterday robs tomorrow of its strength!
It is ok, good to be happy, to feel joy, to love, to laugh, to hope,
to forgive others as we’ve been forgiven!
Be present in this moment now.

Develop heart of gratefulness.
It may start with sunshine, a breeze, a friends smile, or chocolate.
That is ok, it will begin to grow and when we have a tough day we can look
at our list and know life can be good!
God wants to bless us (You!)
Try a thankfulness walk, say thank you in your mind for any little thing
that makes you feel like smiling even a little bit.

Instead of looking back and being stuck, if we lay our burdens at the cross
and leave them there; we can begin again!
Each day is a new beginning with possibilities.
Our value, our worth, our purpose comes from God
not from anything we have done; not from anyone else’s words or opinions.

‘The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving even though we have rebelled against him.  (Daniel 9:9)  (Col. 1:21-22)  WhuHoo!!!

God wants to encourage us! “For I know the plans I have for you,
declares the Lord…plans to give you hope and a future…” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Instead of feeling trapped we can learn to experience
the relief that forgiveness brings.  We have been set free!
Let hope expand in your heart. You are important. You are needed.

Be encouraged, you are not alone.
Love, Debbie
